News: Winners at the Wales Start-Up Awards 2019

We’re delighted to announce that Hexigone has been crowned ‘Innovative Start-Up’ of the year at the Wales Start-Up Awards 2019.

New businesses are the lifeblood of any growing economy. They create innovation, vitality and, most importantly, jobs in local communities – and the awards were set-up to celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit that drives new business.

The awards saw 70 finalists from across Wales compete for 20 awards covering sectors such as creative, digital, financial and more. We’d like to offer a particular congratulations to North Wales distillery Aber Falls for winning the overall award for the ‘2019 Wales Start-Up of the Year’.

In our category, we were up against some great digital companies: Credas, who develop document authentication and facial recognition technology; Cufflink.io who store and link personal information; and finally Disberse who offer financial tech that allows better distribution of money for aid. However, it was innovation of a different kind that won this time!

Hexigone’s heart (and HQ!) is firmly rooted in Wales. Heavy industry was once the mainstay of Welsh economy but has largely been in decline over the past century. However, manufacturing is still very present, and we’re proud to be part of a new wave of pioneering manufacturing companies in the area.

Liz Brookes, co-founder of the Wales Start-Up Awards said: “The awards have shown us yet again the importance of the start-up sector to the Welsh economy. Wales is home to a wealth of entrepreneurial talented businesses who have made a significant impact, not just within the sectors of which they operate, but also across the local, national and in some instances, the global economy”.

The latter certainly applies to Hexigone. Currently, 50+ international coatings companies are formulating with our anti-corrosion product – a real example of local business delivering a solution to a worldwide problem.
